If you have looked at the market for home hardware, you realize there are many designs of cabinet knobs mushroom bar, even novelty shapes like teddy bears are available. When you first get a home, you may not be too worried about what kind of cabinet knobs mushroom are being used. But, whether we like it or not, time takes its toll, and some knobs that were alright one day may not be as easy to use the next.
Many cabinets that come standard with a house have relatively small cabinet knobs mushroom knobs. These are the kinds of knobs your fingers need to get a firm grip around to pull on. While this is ok in your younger years, if you start to develop any muscle problems or that typical process of aging as the years move on, you may start to notice these knobs are not as easy to use as they used to be. Eventually they can be downright painful to pull on.
Your house should be a place where you feel comfortable, and can do what you need to take care of yourself, not a place where you dread having to make a meal because of the pain you will have opening the cabinets.
Once you realize the knobs on your cabinets are getting uncomfortable to use, it's time to take action. You don’t have to rip the whole kitchen apart; you just need to do a simple retrofit, changing out the knobs for ones that are more comfortable.
There are a few options you should look at:
Cabinet Knobs, Mushroom Shaped
One of the problems as you age is gripping smaller cabinet knobs. Cabinet knobs mushroom however, are very large knobs that you can wrap much of your hand around, not just a few fingers. This allows you to spread the pressure from the knob throughout your hand and makes it easier to grab on to. If you have a rustic décor look going in your home, these are the perfect cabinet knobs. Mushroom knobs can be made of stone, wood, even have painted accents, and look as if they came from an old home on the prairie.
Cabinet Pulls
Another option for making your cabinets easier to use are cabinet pulls. Cabinet pulls are bars that are attached in two places to the cabinet, much like you would think of pulls to open a drawer. Since these are bars, you don't have to use your fingers to grip them to open the drawer, you can slide your whole hand in between the pull and the wood of the cabinet and use all that leverage to open it. One consideration when purchasing these pieces is to make sure your hand will fit between the pull and the wood of the drawer. Sometimes, they are a tight fit. If you don't test one pull out in advance you may find these are just as uncomfortable to use as the knobs, as you squeeze your fingers in the pull each time you try to open a cabinet.
