Which Cabinets to Choose – Don’t forget the Kitchen Knobs

As you begin to map out your kitchen remodeling project, a main consideration will be cabinetry. After all, the most important thing to most kitchens is storage space. Now it's time to consider what kind of storage space would be best for the kitchen you are creating.
There are a few kinds of kitchen cabinets and kitchen knobs to choose from. Each of them touting different features and costs.

Stock Cabinets
With stock cabinets, you get what you get. For the most part stock cabinets are going to come with factory standard kitchen knobs and pulls. They are also going to come in a limited number of sizes.   If you have a lot of flexibility in how things can fit in your kitchen, these may be usable as you can install them and then construct the rest of the kitchen and appliances around them. You can also change the kitchen knobs on them to fit your décor if the standard ones that come with them are not what you wanted. They are more affordable and readily available than other cabinet choices, but, if you need cabinets to fill a specific space or design, these likely will not work for you.

Semi-Custom Cabinets
The next category of cabinet styles are semi-custom cabinets. With these you may get standard sizes and factory generic kitchen knobs and drawer pulls, but you can also have a little flexibility in the style of these pieces. Some of your customization options may be in the area of the drawers, being able to change drawer sizes or add dividers.  You also may be able to select different woods for the construction of these pieces as well as more variety in stain and paint finishes. If you have a little bit of flexibility in your storage plans, this may be the answer you were looking for as you get some more variety and can still switch kitchen knobs and other hardware pieces out for ones that best suit your look.

Custom Cabinets

If you know exactly what you want and it’s not stock cabinets, custom cabinets may be the way to go. For a person with a specific design in mind, custom cabinets mean you will get exactly what you want. But, getting just what you want always comes with a price. Custom cabinets are essentially works of art on the part of the cabinetmaker, being made piece by piece to your specifications, and you will be paying dearly for their time. But if you have a picture in mind of what your perfect kitchen cabinets would look like, you can specify all the details of the project in custom cabinets. From size and shape to kitchen knobs and pulls, colors, woods and anything else you can imagine to make the cabinets all your own.  If you are in a hurry to finish your kitchen, you need to look elsewhere. Custom cabinets can take a while to be completed as they are being hand made, by a skilled craftsman, after your order is put in.
